This confusion is about one of the system requirements to install or get Windows 11 upgrade on your PC. Microsoft announced that Windows 11 requires TPM 2.0 to run on any PC.

The TPM, short for Trusted Platform Module is hardware in your PC which is mainly designed to store security keys and encrypting/decrypting storage. It basically is a security measure so all your important data stays safe from online attackers. And Microsoft said itself at the event that Windows 11 is the most secure ever, this is why Micorosft added TPM as a system requirement to install Windows 11.
TPM is being called differently by two major chip makers; Intel calls it PTT (Platform Trusted Technology) and AMG calls it fTPM (Firmware TPM). Now, there are two ways to check if your PC has TPM installed on it or not, check them below.
How to check for TPM on your PC
Open Run program by pressing Win+R hotkey and type “TPM.msc” and press Enter. A window will pop up and you will see all the TPM-related information there. If you see the message “The TPM is ready for use” under the Status section. This means your PC has TPM installed and it’s working fine.
The second method is to go into the Windows Security settings and check it there. For that, open Windows Security from Start and go to Device Security > Security Processor details. If you see this setting in your PC then your PC has TOM installed on it.
How to enable TPM on your PC
There may be a chance that TPM is installed on your PC but has been disabled from the BIOS or UEFI setting. Here is a small guide to tell you how you can enable TPM from BIOS or UEFI setting.
- Boot your PC into UEFI or BIOS.
- Check for the Security section and open it.
- Under the Security section, look for TPM settings.
- If you can’t find it there then go to Advanced Settings.
- You must find TPM settings here, just enable it and save BIOS settings.
If you don’t see the TPM setting using any of the three methods listed above then, unfortunately, your PC does not have it installed. If you have a desktop PC then you will be able to buy the TPM module and install it directly on the motherboard. But if you own a laptop that does not have TPM then wait for some workaround of this TPM requirement.

There is nothing from Micorosft about whether it will change the requirement or not. There is even nothing about the PC that does not have TPM will they get Windows 11 upgrade in the future or they have to be stuck with Windows 10.
